Program Overview

Leadership Del Rio was established to inspire community members to actively participate in local affairs, and thereby contribute to Del Rio’s continued growth and future success. The program's primary goal is to help prepare and encourage young professionals to be agents of change.

Leadership Del Rio offers participants the opportunity to learn more about local history, culture, government, economy, and resources as well as about the challenges we face as a community. Students bring many different perspectives to the program, and the group conversations and collaborations enables them to share ideas that create paths to our stronger tomorrow.

Over time, the establishment of a network of community leaders is one of the greatest benefits of Leadership Del Rio. After completing the program, graduates are encouraged to continue using the knowledge gained and network developed to pursue opportunities that make a difference in our community, both in leadership roles and as active team members. Recognizing the strengths and needs of our community is the first step in effectively pursuing change and growth.

Schedule & Scope

Program participants first meet in August for an orientation, then journey out of town for an overnight retreat in September. Monthly full-day sessions begin in October and conclude with graduation in May.

This 10-month journey provides hands-on opportunities to learn about local government, business, education, law enforcement, social services, medical services, tourism/recreation, and volunteer opportunities.

Sessions will provide the participants with an awareness of the challenges and possibilities in each focus area. Each participant will join a group and create a project they believe will have a positive economic, social, or cultural effect on our community.

How to Apply

Leadership Del Rio seeks candidates who are interested in local economic and community development. Nominees are solicited from businesses, professional groups, agencies, institutions, and civic groups, but any interested individual is welcome to apply by filling out the application. If you are interested in applying for next year's class, you can also call the Del Rio Chamber at 830-775-3551.

Participating in Leadership Del Rio is an investment in one's own growth and professional development that will also pay dividends to our community as it grows and develops. Each year's class size is limited, so candidates not accepted this year are encouraged to re-apply the following year.

*** Please Note: Class sizes are limited. A maximum of 2 representatives from each organization may be selected to participate in the program. Class balance & diversity is crucial to the success of our program. We appreciate your understanding in this regard.***
